With over 25 years of photographic experience in several fields, including commercial, sport, travel and photo-journalism, Jeff Carter is able to produce the images his clients want and expect.

Jeff Carter has been a professional photographer since leaving the Royal Air Force in 1996 when he set up MacLean Photographic, the MacLean taken from his full name Jeffrey Stuart MacLean Carter. The new agency specialised in sports photography, becoming the Official Photographer for the British Canoe Slalom team ahead of the 1996 Olympic Games. In 1997 he gained a Licentiate to the British Institute of Professional Photographers, one of the first to gain the award with a portfolio of motor sport images.

Since 2009 he has worked for the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the world governing body of motor sport, as the Media Delegate for the FIA GT3 European (2009-2011), FIA GT1 World Championships (2010/2011), the FIA World Endurance Championship (2012-2021) and since 2019 the FIA European Historic Rally Championship.

As part of this role he has been able to be hands on with motor sport photography, providing images and videos for the official website and social media feeds, as well as being the main point of contact for the international media and coordinating the work of the official photographic agency for the championship. He has also been the photo delegate for the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans since 2012.  Since 2013 Jeff has also worked on the European Le Mans Series and since 2016 the Michelin Le Mans Cup.

Alongside his motor sport photography, Jeff Carter has carved a reputation for his commercial and fine art work, including landscapes in and around his home in Dunbar, Scotland. His work has been featured in many magazines including BBC Countryfile, Scottish Field, the Sunday Times, BBC Spring Watch and several other high profile media outlets both in the UK and abroad.

From 2015 to 2022 Jeff Carter was an official Fujifilm X Photographer, assisting the Japanese camera manufacturer to develop their X Series camera system.  Jeff has been involved in pre production testing of the X-Pro2, X-T2, X-H1, X-T3 and X-T4 camera bodies, as well as the 50-140mm, 100-400mm, 200mm f2 lenses and 1.4x / 2x converters.  While no longer an official X Photographer, Jeff continues to work with the Japanese company and currently uses the Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2s camera bodies for video and stills.

His love of the Scottish landscapes is clear for all to see in the gallery and on the MacLean Photographic blog and Flickr pages. In 2014 MacLean Photographic launched a series of Workshops where Jeff teaches other photographers how to get the best out of their camera and take home some great memories from East Lothian and the Borders of Scotland.
