PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO WITH YOUR MOBILE PHONE

2000_IMG_5600.jpg

Over the last few years mobile phones have had phenomenal cameras built into them, with the quality of the final images rivalling some of the best mid-range digital cameras from the top manufacturers.

In most situations a good quality camera phone is all you need as it is quite capable of getting great shots if you understand the basics of photography.

This one-day course will explore in more depth the capabilities of the latest camera phones for both still and moving images.  We will also show you how to use bolt on lenses and use a lightweight gimbal to get superbly smooth video sequences.

We will take our guests to a variety of locations including castles, harbours lighthouses and some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Scotland.  The itinerary depends on the tides on the day the workshop is run.  Guests will also be given a choice of the venues we can visit.

I felt a bit apprehensive at first, but within a short space of time I felt relaxed and able to ask questions. The locations were great and we worked around the different weather conditions. Professional, friendly and so informative. Great day out. Highly recommend.

The course will cover the following subjects -

  • Composition and exposure – how to compose an image and get that ‘wow’ factor.

  • An overview of the best photography apps to get on your phone.

  • The use of additional lenses (telephoto, wide, macro and anamorphic) on a camera phone.

  • We will show you how to get smooth cinematic video with your camera phone using a lightweight OSMO Mobile 3 gimbal from DJI.

  • The use of editing software such as Snapseed on your phone to improve your images on the move.

This course lasts from 9am to 5pm with a short introduction over coffee and the rest of the day with practical instruction at two or three dramatic locations in East Lothian and the Scottish Borders.
